Hey guys ^^
i was debating whether or not to post this story up but eventually I thought that some cosplayers out there must have dealt with a situation like mine or even worst during conventions. And my story may bring up some people who dealt with situations like these.
Anyways, When otakuthon started, I was waiting in line for my badge. A guy was hanging around a girl I've meet not too long ago and I was a bit weirded out by this guy. He kept invading random people's bubbles by literally getting up close and personal with some people. Example, there was one girl standing in line and he literally just jumped into her personal space and just stared at her. The girl showed signs that she was obviously not liking this but he didn't seem to notice or care. he even came as far as to hug her and just stay there for a couple of minutes. The girl seemed way too shy to push him off and just let him be.
after some time, I meet up with other cosplayers and ignored that man. I talked to another person who was very nice and then all of the sudden I saw two arms about to close on me and I quickly blocked these arms. I realized it was that same guy. i told him that I wasn't comfortable with his random hugs and he luckily let me go....for a few minutes.
he kept hugging random people without asking permission and at one point he hugged me again. I wasn't fast enough to block him and this time I let him be. (Trust me I was holding back from literally throwing him off of me...which I should have done but...I prefer not acting like that) anyways he hugged me again and I told him the same thing. "Stop hugging me please." and he didn't listen.
As soon as the registration office opened, I quickly took my things and got in line inside. He soon vanished out of sight and got lost in the crowd. I took a breath and just thought putting it aside for the day....that is until he sent me a message on Facebook O_O...
Seriously i don,t know how he found me cause my information is set on private and all. All he sent me was a heart emoticon. I was like hell no! and I blocked him. At the end of the day, I crossed paths with him again and he pulled out his tongue at me and i just ignored him. I think he might've known I blocked him but I'm not sure.
Anyways, looking back at this situation, I feel like I should've stood my ground and said no means no. because invading my space without my permission, hugging me multiple times even when I told him no and finding my Facebook...yeah kinda creepy.
So I'm bringing this story to other cosplayers to say don't be shy. Stand your ground. if someone makes you feel uncomfortable during a convention, let people know. Talk to friends and stick to a group of people. If things get seriously bad, talk to security.
That guy could have been a lot worst and I'm glad he wasn't but I'm sure many cosplayers like me dealt with a situation like mine or even worst than mine. So please, if you know of any cosplayers or friends of yours who enjoy conventions, let them know that they should stand their ground and not let anybody step on them.
Cosplay doesn,t equal consent.
